What is a Windmill Generator system?

Wind turbines operate on a simple principle. The energy in the wind turns two or three propeller-like blades around a rotor. The rotor is connected to the main shaft, which spins a generator to create electricity. This ac current is then turned to DC using a one way diode or other. The high amperage power is directed and connected to a battery charge controller. This prevents the battery from getting over charged and destroying the battery. Deep cycle 12 volt DC batteries are used and are then connected to an inverter. The inverter then raises the 12 volt DC to 110 VAC or 120 VAC.  This in turn is connected to a simple and commonly used transfer switch, which can be purchased online or at any store that sells backup generators. The transfer switch is then connected to the breaker box of the home.   You can install the transfer switch yourself if you like, by turning off the main breaker box switch or having your local electric company removing and turning off the house meter for you. The transfer switch is easy to install and comes with instructions.  If you do not think you can handle the install yourself, hire a local electrician to install it for you for a small fee.
